Acmena human factors team visits digital infrastructure specialist, Black Box, facilities.
Technology is only as good as the people it supports and how well it is designed around their needs.
Acmena’s human factors team visited Black Box in Macquarie Park for a closer look at their control room and command centre technology.
We were rather impressed.
Their Keyboard, Video and Mouse (KVM) virtualisation technology has the potential to change how operators interact with multiple systems. It simplifies workstations, reduces clutter and gives operators access to the information and systems they need from a single, integrated environment.
But in a safety-critical environment, technology is only part of the story. That’s why much of our conversation focused on the value of bringing technology and human factors together early in the design process.
That’s where we see a real opportunity for collaboration.
Black Box has the technology. Acmena brings expertise in human factors, systems engineering, safety and assurance to help ensure that technology is integrated into an operational environment that is safe, usable, resilient and fit for purpose.
The earlier those perspectives come together, the easier it is to get things right and achieve acceptance from end users, before changes become costly.
Thanks to the Black Box team for a great visit and some really interesting conversations. We’re looking forward to exploring how we can work together to deliver safer, more efficient control rooms.
