Acmena delivers world-first cloud-based framework in DOORS Next to successfully manage the Metro Tunnel Melbourne's requirements.

Challenge

Featuring twin 9km tunnels, five underground stations, advanced signalling and high-capacity trains, the Metro Tunnel Project is the most complex infrastructure project to be undertaken in Victoria. The first of its kind, the project presented an enormous challenge in every aspect, from procurement to integration. To mitigate the risk, Metro Tunnel Project Office (MTPO) needed a systems engineering solution to control delivery that encompassed the whole project lifecycle and supply chain while assuring the safety risks of the built system were reduced SFAIRP.

Approach

Engaged to advise on a systems engineering solution, Acmena focused its approach on de-risking integration and procurement. To provide high level visibility and traceability, and support concurrent use across the multiple contractors and stakeholders, DOORS Next was chosen as a requirements repository for the project. Acmena worked closely with MTPO to configure the cloud-based framework to suit the project’s needs throughout its lifecycle. This included partitioning areas for stakeholders to protect sensitive information during the tender phase, while enabling parties to find and trace data for integration and assurance purposes.

Outcome

Acmena’s expertise in configuring DOORS Next has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between stakeholders in addition to managing integration and providing progressive assurance. Not only was this a world-first use of DOORS Next SaaS in a major infrastructure project, this approach has since been replicated in subsequent projects, including the Regional Rail Revival Project and has become standard practice for major infrastructure projects.
