Human factors specialist, James Butt, joins Acmena’s Sydney office.

Strengthening Acmena’s human factors capability across New South Wales, James offers practical expertise across the full project lifecycle and has proven experience in delivering human factors integration, assurance and usability solutions for major Australian rail, infrastructure and signalling projects.

James has contributed to some of New South Wales’s most significant rail and infrastructure programs, including Sydney Metro, the Transport Accessibility Program, More Trains, More Services, and Morisset Re-Signalling – giving him in-depth knowledge of the regulatory, operational, and engineering environments that define large-scale Australian rail delivery.

He is skilled in embedding human factors into engineering design processes and safety assurance frameworks, ensuring that end-user needs, regulatory requirements, and operational performance are all considered from concept through to delivery.

Delighted to welcome another highly capable HF consultant to the team, NSW State Manager, Christophe Waterplas, said: “It’s great to have James on board. He brings some solid experience from notable projects, and I am excited to see the contribution he will make alongside the rest of the team.”

“Human factors is clearly in Acmena’s DNA, so I am looking forward to progressing my career with such a capable and experienced team,” James said. “The company is involved in a number of significant projects, so I am hoping my skills and experience will add something positive to these.

“By working alongside such an experienced team, I am hoping to continue building my expertise by continuing to practice my strengths, while still broadening my skill set through learning and practice.”

James will be joining the human factors program on Transport for NSW’s Digital Systems Program – Systems Integrator, which Acmena has led since 2018. His appointment reflects the continued growth of Acmena’s NSW team and its commitment to providing world-class, multi-discipline support to both local and national rail infrastructure projects.
