Acmena provides systems and safety assurance services to strengthen Queensland Rail's ETCS and signalling assurance processes.

Challenge

As a specialist in rail signalling assurance, Acmena was engaged by Queensland Rail to develop internal assurance arguments for various signalling packages for the Cross River Rail project. This included both the ETCS Level 2 and the Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) packages. To support the delivery of new signalling systems, Queensland Rail leveraged Acmena’s extensive expertise to help refine its internal assurance arguments and align evidence from multiple suppliers into a consistent, transparent framework.

Approach

Acmena embedded an experienced assurance specialist in Queensland Rail’s signalling team for the duration of the project. A pragmatic and scalable approach was taken to develop a process that aligned with the client’s existing standards and operational context. External assurance deliverables were reviewed, standardised in format and tracked on commissioning readiness reviews. Leveraging its experience with Queensland rail projects, Acmena worked closely with QR and its suppliers to ensure assurance evidence was delivered in a timely and co-ordinated manner.

Outcome

Over 15 assurance arguments for various stages of the project were created and delivered on time, prior to commissioning. The client received documented evidence of project assurance in addition to a consistent approach and template for use on other projects. Acmena’s approach was successfully broadened to assess other externally delivered signalling projects as a standardised means of accepting suppliers’ safety assurance deliverables.
